SPECIAL RINGING EVENTS

For centuries the role of bell ringing has been a celebratory and honorary one – ringing in the joy of weddings, victories and special anniversaries – and also to intone the sadness of deaths and funerals.

The Bell Tower are rung for ceremonial occasions, marking the incoming year on the New Years Eves since opening and are now an integral part of the Australia Day Lotto Skyworks.

Australia Day Skyshow Precinct.

The Bell Tower is front and centre of the Australia Day Skyshow celebrations, with a special family-friendly precinct area cordoned off and ticketed entry to Barrack Square surrounding the Belltower, with rides and activities and the best picnics areas in town!

Special Occasions & Remembrances.

The Bell Tower is a part of the community. The Bell Tower is a key member of the City of Perth and the State community and is proud to have a position to uphold community values and cultures through its ringing in celebration, honour and commemoration of days special to the local community. In remembrance of the second anniversary of the Bali tragedy on 12 October 2004, the Bells were tolled at dawn (5.40am), 16 times each hour on the hour from 7am-10pm and then for the last time at 11.08pm, the actual time the tragedy occurred.

The world-wide tragedy of September 11 was also remembered with a special ringing on the anniversary, as was the London Bombings, with a special tribute ring for the victims.

ANZAC Day, Remembrance Day and the celebration of the success of the Australian athletes at the Commonwealth Games are some of the many events of special significance to the community that are paid tribute to at the Bell Tower with a special ringing.
